Finally ginger emojis are on the cards!

Many of you will have seen the news that was released yesterday that we are FINALLY getting our own emoji! It is annoying that we can't convey ourselves over messages and social media in the form of a cute little figure - the closest thing to a ginge is the lion or the flame.

This news comes from a petition, started in Scotland (unsurprisingly as Scotland is said to be home to the largest population of coppertops), which recieved over 20,000 signatures calling for "ginger equality".

Current emojis which can differ between Apple / Android devices and platforms such as Whatsapp, all of which boast a variety of haircolours and skin tones - so why the oversight? Hmm, well no one seems to have an answer to that but after months of complaints from across the globe, it appears that someone is listening.

You're probably thinking that this is something that can be implicated immediately...but no, apparently it is not as simple as taking the existing blonde emoji and putting a little carrot wig on it. A spokeperson from Emojipedia has claimed that our new emoji won't be seen until 2018 at the earliest due to standardisation talks (and because their new emoji update is just about to be released - heaven forbid you delay it to add one more little redheaded figure!)

I find all of this highly amusing as the pictures that were put alongside this news article (as seen below) show a redheaded emoji! So there is no need to create one, can't they just copy and paste that into their update...
